About the consultation and FAQs

Consultations are offered in person or online.

The location is 84 Stirling Street, Alva, Clackmannanshire, FK12 5EA

(in the main high street)

How does the consultation work?

Here are the main stages and practicalities of the process:

Step 1 – If you would like to learn more you can book a discovery call to learn more, this takes around 15 minutes. We can discuss your situation, how I can help and any questions you might have. There is of course no obligation to go forward.

Step 2 – A first consultation can be in-person or online by video conferencing and lasts around 1 hour. It is an opportunity to have conversations about your health concerns and focus. We will walk through your primary concerns as well as the main body systems as recognised in conventional healthcare, so we can look at things holistically and in a joined up way.

Step 3 – On booking a consultation I send an optional pre-consultation form which asks some introductory questions about your health, allergies, and current medications, so any prescription can be safely tailored. Alongside this I send information on forms of herbal medicine, how it is commonly taken, and pros and cons, so you can consider which options will suit you. Payment for the consultation is requested ahead of the appointment by bank transfer.

Step 4 – Following a consultation your personalised medicine is created based on our conversations and your preferences. We can agree the forms of herbal medicine you would like, within a budget you are comfortable with. Nutritional guidance or resources can be provided and step-by-step plans can be created. Herbal medicine is priced separately (see the prices page). Your medicine can be posted or collection can be arranged in Alva during working hours.

Step 5 – Follow-up appointments can be in-person or online and take 20 to 40 minutes. This is an opportunity for a supportive check-in to discuss your progress and updates, for example symptom changes. We can explore concerns or enquiries in more depth. This helps me to tailor your medicine or support to present needs – plant medicine can be likened to food, with people having individual responses. Timing between initial consultation and follow up varies, some people find it helpful to have a follow up after 1 month, or it could be sooner or longer.

Step 6 – If you have any questions following a consultation or receiving your medicine then get in touch by phone or email.

FAQ’s

What health conditions do you treat?

Herbs and nutrition, and lifestyle options, can be used to treat many health conditions or to improve or manage symptoms. Often herbs and food encourage our healing mechanisms incrementally, bit by bit, and so consistency with approach, giving our bodies these nudges over a period of time can help effectiveness. There are some instances where using herbs as sole treatment for a health condition won’t be appropriate or safe. If you’re unsure do get in touch and we can discuss your circumstances. However, plants or nutrition can often be safely selected to support your health, work alongside conventional approaches, or to assist rehabilitation following injury or interventions.

What are your qualifications and experience?

I am a qualified herbal medicine practitioner, trained to treat medical complaints. I undertook my qualification first through Betonica in Somerset, followed by the The Plant Medicine School based in Ireland, over almost five years. I completed 500 hours of clinical training which involved being part of several busy student clinics supporting people from all walks of life with herbal medicine and personalised healthcare plans. There is more information about my qualifications and experience on the about me page. Flower & Root’s ethical principles and core values can be found on the consultation page. I am a member of the Irish Register of Herbalists and abide by their code of conduct. I hold full practice insurance and an enhanced DBS check.

How will I be treated and spoken to?

I’m straightforward, kind and supportive. I will be polite, friendly, respectful and inclusive. I aim to be open, transparent and non-ambiguous. I work in a person centred way, you can read more about this in my ethical principles and core values on the consultation page.

How much does it cost?

A discovery chat to learn more is free, a first consultation is £50 and a follow up consultation is £35. For repeat prescriptions without an appointment there is a dispensing only fee of £5. A first consultation and two follow up consultations booked together is £100, offering a discount of £20 (available until end of April 2026).

Herbal medicine is priced separately and will be agreed with you at the end of the consultation. As a guide, one month of herbal extract tincture costs £36, whilst one month of tea is £28. Herb and mushroom powders are priced individually. A discount is offered on reputable supplements which can be purchased separately online.

See more detail on the prices page.

Whole plant medicine is prescribed

The medicines I use are based on the principles of whole plant medicine.

Extracts have been made using the whole part of the plant, meaning the plant’s constituent profile has not been synthetically altered or recreated.

Traditional slow extraction methods are favoured and traditional extraction mediums such as water, oil, alcohol, vinegar and honey are used.

Organic or sustainably wild-crafted plants and herbs are used. Many items are grown and harvested in the UK and I aim to support local growers and farmers. Carefully processed herbs, extracts and powders are sourced from reputable suppliers or manufacturers who are able to provide assurance of sustainable cultivation, harvesting and traceability though the supply chain.

You can read more about whole plant medicine within the core values on the consultation page.

Supplements and mushrooms

Supplements, including probiotics, magnesium, vitamins and mushrooms can be purchased separately using Flower & Root’s practitioner discount from a number of reputable online companies who can deliver directly to you.

I can send details of how to purchase these using an online discount code following a initial consultation.
